Optical fiber is used to transmit data at high speeds in landline, long distance, computer networks and the Internet. Fiber-optic cables are made of thin strands of silica (glass) as the core and a very thin polymer layer of PVC. This polymer layer is placed on a large number of thin glass fibers as insulation and protection.<\/p>\n
